Why post on LinkedIn as a big law attorney? Why develop a personal brand as a big law attorney?
Well, my firm has almost 1,120 attorneys and almost as many business professionals.
Every time I visit another office, every time I go to a firm event with folks outside my office, someone (often more than one person) stops me, introduces themselves, and recognizes my LinkedIn presence.
That's a really high quality feeling and is not something easily replicable by just doing the legal work (which I love and attempt to excel at), or even by serving on firmwide committees and participating in other groups.
The referral system, the potential client connections, and the speaking engagements and other opportunities are, of course, worthwhile, too--very, very meaningful and often very fun.
Social media isn't going anywhere. Business development is evolving and, most of us, will have to do it in new ways.
LinkedIn is one way--a way I highly recommend.
