Hours Check In v1
After some time off, I'm back in action.
Since today is my first business day of 2026, let's jump right into my billable hour plan and check in.
A New Year? Zeroes in all columns.
Some people hate that. I love it.
A fresh start. A new chance to meet or beat my goals.
My firm expects partners to track 2,400 hours annually--a mix of billable (client) time and non-billable (investment or productive) time.
For me, that productive time tends to include: administrative tasks, professional development, board roles, mentoring, business development, professional branding, and client-facing time that I don't want to nickel and dime clients for.
This time helps me:
🌟 invest in my firm
🌟 invest in myself
🌟 build my business
🌟 give back
Now, I will break down that annual goal into monthly targets, which turn into weekly and daily targets.
I want to start off strong, so my goal for January 2026 is 212 hours.
When I look at my calendar, I see:
💪🏻 20 full working days
💪🏻 5 weekend days where I will work 2-3 hours per day (while my husband is Up North ice fishing)
The math?
✖️ 212-15 weekend hours = 197
✖️ 197 / 20 full work days = 9.9 hours each work day
Being aggressive this month, will, hopefully, start building a buffer--for days off here and there throughout the year, and a true vacation somewhere along the way.
Off to it.
