April 2026 Review
April was a mess and quick--too quick.
Every month, I take at least an hour, sometimes a half day to review the month and plan for the next.
Reflecting on the month reminds me that--well beyond the billable hour--I'm doing things (all the things? too many things?).
This month:
I had 17 1:1s (with four today)--with colleagues, new connections, mentees, and more.
I spoke on an AI panel (litigation + privilege), became an AI champion at the firm (we have rolled out Legora, and I got early access to Claude's CoWork in CoPilot), and attended an event on AI for TFA alumni.
I played tennis five times.
I visited south Florida and spoke on a panel at NALP's annual conference.
I flew to Salt Lake and drove to Idaho for a three-motion hearing (this was the epitome of a whirlwind).
I had three depositions.
I joined a movers + shakers networking group.
I had three other speaking engagements--a brief firm note at a business lunch, spoke to classes at both of Wisconsin's law schools, and presented by CLE on ethics + wellbeing via Justia.
And--I caught up on my all-in hours goal, pushing slightly ahead of target after a slow Q1.
It was a FULL month. I'm not sure how I did it. May is looking just as full. June--and my 40th--will hopefully bring a slight slow down.
This career can be what you make it. Most of these opportunities started coming my way when I decided to lean in on authenticity and being my full self in the work.
Now, some of these things fall today--so, off to it.
